Herbert Silfvenius

Karl Herbert Johannes Silfvenius (born March 16, 1931 in Borgå , Finland) is a Finnish physiologist and neurosurgeon with special epilepsy expertise.

Life

After studying medicine in Helsinki until 1959, Silfvenius began his specialist training from 1960 to 1962 at Lund University in Sweden and continued it from 1962 to 1964 with a focus on epilepsy surgery at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) in Montreal , Canada. There he worked a. a. with Pierre Gloor and Theodore Rasmussen . In 1964 he returned to Lund. From 1966 to 1969 he was in the Department of Physiology at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. In 1969 he moved to Umeå University in Sweden, where he completed his habilitation in 1972 and was given a lectureship in physiology .

In 1975 Silfvenius completed his specialist training in neurosurgery , from 1977 he was at the Neurosurgical Clinic of the University of Umeå, from 1982 as a lecturer in neurosurgery and from 1984 as professor and until 1986 director of the neurosurgical clinic with the establishment of an epilepsy surgery program. He is now Professor Emeritus.

Silfvenius was u. a. from 1989 to 1993 co-chair of the Commission on Neurosurgery of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).
