Herbert Tasquil

Herbert Tasquil (* December 23, 1923 as Herbert Weck in Vienna ; † August 23, 2008 ibid) was an Austrian painter , graphic artist and art theorist . He became known for his work in public spaces and as a distinguished university professor.

Youth and Studies

Herbert Tasquil Weck was born in Vienna as the first son of the engineer Leo Franz Weck. After graduating from high school, Herbert Tasquil studied painting under Herbert Boeckl at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1941 to 1945.

career

After completing his studies (academic degree Magister der Künste, Mag. Art.) Herbert Tasquil was engaged as an assistant at the Herbert Boeckl master school from 1945 to 1952. Tasquil then worked as a freelance artist, went on study trips and presented works in various exhibitions both in Vienna and in the USA. In 1961 Herbert Tasquil was appointed as a lecturer at the then Academy (from 1970 University) for Applied Arts in Vienna (since 1998 University), which he held until 1975. As early as 1964, he was additionally appointed head of a basic study class at this institution and in 1969 he was appointed associate professor. In 1971 he was appointed head of the master class for design theory - art education / teaching post, and in 1973 he was appointed full professor. Herbert Tasquil also held several academic positions at the "Angewandte" (department head, president of examination committees, etc.). Until 1988 Tasquil showed several works in Austria and Italy in solo or group exhibitions. His retirement took place at the end of the 1994 summer semester.

Public works created by Tasquil include:

  • Four large-format constructivist wall paintings in secko technique (15 m² each), 1956 (elementary school Czerninplatz, 1020 Vienna, three of which were restored in 2010 and one destroyed based on a model by Franz Vana, a graduate of the Tasquil master class, reconstructed).
  • Mosaic friezes z. B. for the Josef Baldermann-Hof, Pasettistraße 9-21, 1200 Vienna, 1960.
  • Panel painting 1961 (Zentralsparkasse), ceramic wall 1964, stone carving relief (all City of Vienna) glass window for the Klosterneuburg town hall, 1969.
  • Church window for Grignano-Miramare / Triest, wall hanging 1987 (University of Applied Arts in Vienna).

Awards

In 2003 Herbert Tasquil was made an honorary member of the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Personal and family

Herbert Tasquil's younger brother is the Austrian stage and film actor Peter Weck (* 1930), who also worked as a director, theater producer and theater manager.
