Herbert Thalhammer

Herbert Thalhammer (born July 12, 1955 in Hallstatt ) is a former Austrian politician ( Die Grünen ) and secondary school teacher. From 1987 to 1989 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending elementary school in Bad Goisern, Thalhammer attended grammar school in Bad Ischl from 1964 to 1970 and, after moving to Vorarlberg, graduated from the music and pedagogical grammar school in Feldkirch from 1970 to 1974, where he also graduated in 1974 . In 1974 he began training as a secondary school teacher at the Pedagogical Academy in Feldkirch, which he attended until 1977. He acquired the license to teach German and gymnastics, and between 1981 and 1982 also that of history. He then worked as a secondary school teacher in Schruns between 1977 and 1982 and then switched to the Frastanz secondary school in 1982 . He interrupted his work as a secondary school teacher between 1987 and 1989 and then worked again as a secondary school teacher in Frastanz until 1991. Between 1991 and 1992 he completed an educational trip to India, after which he was a househusband or politically active from 1993 to 2002. Thalhammer taught English at the Waldorf School in Schaan ( Liechtenstein ) between 2002 and 2005 and completed a language teacher training course for English in Bern . He then worked as a teacher at the Free Montessori School in Altach from 2006 to 2009 , and in 2009 he switched to the Free School in Lindau , Germany.

Politics and functions

Thalhammer was one of the co-founders of the Vorarlberg Alternative List in 1982 and was also co-founder of Feldkirch blooms around 1983 . Furthermore, he worked from 1983 to 1990 as a member of the coordination committee of the ALV and in 2000 became chairman of the Lüt for Feldkirch - natural law party. From 1985 to 1992 he was a substitute member of the Feldkirch city council and was a member of the civil engineering committee. In addition, he worked as a member of the teachers' union from 1977, was editor of the Vorarlberger Alternative Rundbrief from 1985 to 1989 and, in 1997, co-initiator of the movement “ Bewurt das Reichenfeld”. After Sigfrid Peter's resignation, he moved to the Vorarlberg state parliament on October 7, 1987 and was a member of it until October 23, 1989. In the state parliament he was a member of the culture committee, a member of the social policy committee and a member of the ombudsman committee as well as a substitute member of the legal committee.

Private

Herbert Thalhammer was born as the son of the hotel manager Rudolf Thalhammer and his wife. His father came from Hallstatt, his mother Therese Thalhammer, née Tschol, was born in St. Anton am Arlberg. The family moved to Vorarlberg together in 1970. Thalhammer married the Melbourne- born musician Penelope Gunter in 1993 , and Thalhammer's son was born that same year.
