Herbert Wächter

Herbert Wächter (born December 29, 1932 in Wuppertal ; † 1996 ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Herbert Wächter was the son of the painter Alois Wächter and Rosa Maria Wächter in Wuppertal- Oberbarmen . After breaking off his high school education, he completed an apprenticeship as a painter in 1948. From 1951 to 1953 he studied at the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal , among other things as a student of Ernst Oberhoff (monumental painting) and Otto Schulze (drawing). The Wuppertal District Craftsmen Association grants Wächter a scholarship for this. He finished his studies in 1953 with a state examination.

From 1954 Herbert Wächter worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist, mainly in Wuppertal, where he was a member of the rbk group . In 1953 he ran a studio and a gallery on Capri. In 1965 Wächter received a travel grant from the city of Wuppertal. His travels brought him to Germany, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Italy (Rome, Sicily, Trapani, Pantelleria, Capri). Wächter was a member of the Association of Visual Artists North Rhine-Westphalia and the Grosgeismar art group .

In Wuppertal, Wächter earned his living, among other things, with monumental works such as wall paintings for kindergartens, schools and hospitals. He later made his realistic travel sketches in the Wuppertal studio. He made oil and watercolor paintings, drawings and prints. The subjects of his representational work were nature studies, architectural motifs and portraits, which often showed his wife. As a commercial artist, he received orders from Mannesmann AG . The artist showed his work at home and abroad.
