Ring of Bergisch artists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ring Bergischer Künstler ( Rbk for short or group rbk ) was a group of artists from Wuppertal and other parts of the Bergisches Land founded in Wuppertal in 1946 . The group, renamed Ring Bildender Künstler in 1958, existed until 1996.

history

It was founded on September 28, 1946 in the studio of the draftswoman Martha Jaeger in Wuppertal. First as an artists' cooperative born out of the post-war crisis, the group established itself as an elementary part of the Wuppertal artist scene in the 1950s and campaigned for reconciliation and understanding by inviting representatives of modern Polish art to exhibitions in 1958.

With the Galerie Palette - Röderhaus in Wuppertal, the artist group established an artists' meeting place on the Sedansberg in Wuppertal- Barmen , which was run by the painter, graphic artist and gallery owner Adolf Röder , who was chairing the Ring Bergischer Künstler at the time. At the end of the 1960s, five artists around their ' spiritus rector ' Ernst Oberhoff , head of the painting class at the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal , exhibited in the group exhibition on the subject of colors .

The members of the artist group included Maurus Baldermann, Hannes Schultze-Froitzheim , Helga Haas, Stefani Maria Jokisch, Ludwig Koob , Oswald Lehmpfuhl , Wilfried Reckewitz , Adolf Röder , Georg Röder , Paul Röder , Eva Röder , Helmut Röder , Friedrich Julius Scherff , Iro son , Fritz vom Stein , Björn Ueberholz, Karl-Hermann Ueberholz (from 1995 honorary chairman of the Rbk), Herbert Wächter , Walter Wohlfeld and Walter Zimmermann . The Cologne artist Franz M. Jansen was made an honorary member, as was the later Federal President Johannes Rau , who was friends with some of the members.

As an established artists' association, the Ring Bergischer Künstler provided two jury members for the annual Bergischer Kunstausstellung in Solingen from 1962 .

Even after the group was dissolved in 1996, an association of ring visual artists is based in the group's artist bar " Galerie Palette - Röderhaus".
