Helmut Röder

Helmut Röder (born July 31, 1938 in Wuppertal ; † February 18, 2012 in Goedereede , Netherlands ) was a German cook , painter , textile artist, carpet designer and gallery owner .

Life

Helmut Röder came from a well-known family of painters from Wuppertal. Röder's father Adolf Röder was also a painter and co-designer of the Wuppertal culture (see “Adolf-Röder-Gasse” in Barmen ), his uncle was the painter Paul Röder . Helmut Röder attended grammar school on Siegesstraße up to the upper secondary level and initially decided to do an apprenticeship as a successful chef in the then renowned “ Essener Hof ” of the Krupp family. According to reports, Berthold Beitz , General Manager of the Krupp Group , had his buffets arranged only by Helmut Röder. After the final exam he worked there until his military service.

From 1960 he ran the family's “ Palette Röderhaus ” restaurant . At the same time, he trained in painting techniques.

Helmut Röder was a member of the examination board of the Wuppertal Chamber of Commerce and Industry for many years , was a member of the International Hotelier Association and led seminars for the next generation in the Hotel and Restaurant Association of North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 1992, he and his wife Christel have run the studio gallery “Het Röderhaus” in Goedereede.

In 1965 he married Christel Pläcking. The family has three sons.

Activities as an artist

The focus of his pictures in the first years were "landscape motifs"; He paid attention to the geometrical division of areas. Using the tufting process, which he got to know in the mid-1960s, he began producing tapestries in his studio from 1976. His paintings and carpets are in private and public collections. Since 1955 he has been represented with works at exhibitions in Europe, Mexico, Canada and the USA.

He was a member of the Ring of Fine Artists , the Hofgeismar Art Circle and co-initiator of the “Art in the Hospital” and “Art in the Restaurant” campaigns.
