Herbert Wagner (taxidermist)

Herbert Wagner (born October 8, 1930 in Laußnitz ; † January 27, 2015 in Kamenz ) was a German taxidermist and recreational geologist.

Herbert Wagner, known as the research pioneer of the Lausitz Moldavites , was born in Laußnitz in 1930. The taxidermist worked for many years at the Museum of West Lusatia in Kamenz. Herbert Wagner, who was interested in geology, found one of his first Moldavites in 1972 on the site of the Ottendorf-Okrilla gravel mine. This green rock is assigned to a meteorite impact on German territory, the so-called Ries event . Later, Wagner was also in other places in the Lausitz and the occurrence of such, Tektite proof glass blocks mentioned. He published some scientific papers on the subject and was mentioned in a few. The Museum of Mineralogy and Geology Dresden recognized Herbert Wagner's achievement in 1999 in its No. 10 issue.
