The Herdman Rocks are two 15 m high cliffs in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . They rise out of the sea 2.5 km southeast of Hart Rock and 5 km northeast of Cape Dundas from Laurie Island .
The first mapping goes back to the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) under the direction of Jules Dumont d'Urville . Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations named them after the British hydrologologist and oceanographer Henry Franceys Porter Herdman (1901-1967), who was a member of the scientific committee of this series of expeditions from 1929 to 1949.
