Heribert Cypionka

Heribert Cypionka (* 1955 in Borken ) is a German biologist who specializes in the field of microbiology .

Life

Cypionka studied biology and philosophy at the Universities of Münster and Göttingen . With the dissertation Carbon Monoxide - Insensitive Breathing. Electron transport and terminal oxidases in carboxydotrophen bacteria was he in 1982 in Göttingen at the Department of Microbiology as an academic student of Hans Günter Schlegel to Dr. rer. nat doctorate . In 1989 he completed his habilitation at the University of Konstanz in the subjects of microbiology and microbial ecology . Since 1992 Cypionka has been Professor of Paleomicrobiology at the Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Sea at the University of Oldenburg .

Cypionka is the author of the textbook Fundamentals of Microbiology (1999), which he has continued to update ever since. The fourth, revised and updated edition appeared in 2010.
