Heribert IV. (Vermandois)
Heribert IV. (* Around 1032, † around 1080) was Count of Vermandois and by marriage Count of Valois . He was the last Count of Vermandois from the House of Carolingians and thus the last male Carolingian at all.
He was the son and successor of Count Odo von Vermandois († May 25, 1045) and inherited him when he died.
Before 1068 he married Adele von Valois, daughter of Rudolf IV , Count of Valois, Crépy , Vitry , Amiens and Vexin . After his father-in-law's death in 1074, the inheritance of the father-in-law fell to Adele's older brother Simon , who, however, entered the monastery in 1077 and Adele bequeathed at least the county of Valois, which Heribert now ruled from his wife's right .
He had two children:
- Odo (Eudes) II., Called the madman ("l'Insensé") († after 1085), ∞ Hadwige
- Adélaide (* probably 1065, † September 28, 1120/1124) Countess of Vermandois and Valois, ∞ I) 1078 Hugo of France (1057–1101), son of King Henry I of France ( Capetian ), ∞ II) 1103 Rainald II . († before 1162) Count of Clermont-en-Beauvaisis ( House of Clermont )
Heribert's only son, Odo, apparently suffered from a mental illness, at least he was disinherited from his father. Instead, the sole heir was his daughter Adélaide, who brought her father's property to the Capetians through her first marriage.
