Heriberto Ramón Morales Cortés (born March 10, 1975 in Morelia , Michoacán ) is a retired Mexican football player on the position of defender .

Life

society

Morales received his first professional contract with his hometown club Monarcas Morelia , for which he made his debut in the Mexican professional league in a home game played on March 3, 1996 against Club León , which ended 2-2. His first goal in the top Mexican division , he scored in the semi-final first leg of the Liguillas in Torneo Verano 1997 against Club Deportivo Guadalajara . His goal to win the 1-0 home game would have meant a participation in the finals for the Monarcas if Chivas hadn't also won 1-0 with a late goal (80th minute) in the second leg. But as it was, Chivas was able to prevail in the league round due to the better record and then also won the title.

In the following 1997/98 season, Morales played on loan for league rivals CF Monterrey , but then returned to Morelia and won the 2000 Torneo Invierno championship with the Monarcas.

He spent the entire year 2003 in the service of the CD Guadalajara and then switched to the Jaguares de Chiapas , in whose ranks he let his active career end.

National team

He made his national team debut in a friendly against Mexico's arch rivals USA on October 25, 2000 , which was lost 2-0.

In the three months between July 12 and October 7, 2001, Morales made a total of nine international appearances and also took part in the Copa America games, where he only missed the group game against Paraguay (0-0). Mexico qualified for the final in this tournament, in which “El Tri” lost 1-0 to host Colombia .
