background

Seda was very religious and attended church regularly. He lived with his mother and half-sister in east New York City, was unemployed and very closed to strangers. When he was 16 years old, he was expelled from high school for carrying a gun.

Beginning November 17, 1989, New York City 75th Precinct received letters entitled " This is the Zodiac ." The first letter contained a warning about twelve murders, one for each zodiac sign. The letter alleged that a murder had already taken place. However, since the police had no evidence of this, the letter was dismissed as a forgery. In reality, Seda did not begin his murders until after the letter. One night he shot his half-sister for letting her boyfriend stay with her. He took his friend hostage, but gave up quickly when the police arrived. At the station he wrote down his confession and used symbols there that he had already used in his letters as a Zodiac. This was how the police found him.
