Heribrand was the son and heir of Heribrand II von Hierges, castellan of Bouillon, and his wife Hedwig von Orchimont.

At that time, Hierges belonged to the French county of Champagne , while Bouillon belonged to the German duchy of Lower Lorraine . Heribrand's liege lord for Bouillon was Duke Gottfried von Bouillon .

Together with his brother-in-law Balduin, he took part in Gottfried's army in the First Crusade (1096-1099). The chronicler Albert von Aachen mentions him by name during the siege of Nicaea in 1097.

With Hodernia he had a son, Manasses von Hierges († 1176). He was in the Holy Land from 1140 to 1152 and made a career there as a constable of Jerusalem .
