Herman Berkien
Herman Berkien (born June 15, 1942 in Utrecht , † June 22, 2005 ibid; actually Hermannus Antonius Berkien ) was a Dutch entertainer and singer.
Berkien was best known in his home country for his recordings of songs in the dialect of his hometown Utrecht . He celebrated great success in the 1970s with songs like Waar is toch m'n caravan and Utereg me stadje . Between 1974 and 1979 he worked closely with the comedian Tineke Schouten , whose discoverer Berkien is considered.
In 2002 he was appointed a member of the Order of Orange-Nassau . In 2004 Berkien was awarded the badge of honor by the city of Utrecht for his special commitment and services to the city.
Berkien was a passionate supporter of the FC Utrecht football club . To qualify for the UEFA Cup , in 2001 he converted his biggest hit Utereg me stadje (German: Utrecht, my town ) into Utereg me kluppie (German: Utrecht my club ).
Berkien died on June 22, 2005 at the age of 63 from the effects of a heart attack that he had suffered three days earlier.
