Herman Philipse

Herman Philipse (born May 13, 1951 ) is a Dutch philosopher.

Life

Philipse received his PhD from Leiden University in 1983 . He taught there from 1986–2003. He is now professor of philosophy at the University of Utrecht . Philipse dealt with works by Descartes , Husserl , Heidegger , among others . He received recognition for his Atheist Manifesto . Ayaan Hirsi Ali , who contributed the foreword to the 2004 edition of the manifesto, recognizes the first edition as an influence on their path from Islam to atheism. Since Philipse found his Atheist Manifesto inadequate to refute any proof of God, he wrote a more detailed scientific negotiation, God in the Age of Science? A Critique of Religious Reason (2012). Here he presents a decision tree according to which believers can justify their religion and deconstruct the "universal atheists"
