Herman Saftleven (also: Sachtleven , Hermann Saftleven ) (* 1609 in Rotterdam , † January 5, 1685 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch painter.

Saftleven, his father's pupil, was more like the Antwerp landscape painters and had lived in Utrecht since 1633. Apart from a trip to the Rhine, he did not leave the city until his death.

After the storm of 1674, the Utrecht city government commissioned Saftleven to document the damage to the Utrecht Cathedral .

His pictures, executed with meticulous delicacy, the majority of which depict Rhineland landscapes and are characterized by their own bluish scent, can be found in most galleries. Saftleven also produced some excellent etchings. His brother Cornelis Saftleven was also a painter.
