The Hermann Sudermann School ( Lithuanian Klaipėdos Hermano Zudermano vidurinė mokykla ) is a Lithuanian school for the German ethnic group in Memel . It is named after the German writer and playwright Hermann Sudermann .

history

The school was established as a German primary school on September 1, 1992. Since September 1, 1993, upper school classes have been offered. The first Abitur class left school in 2000/01. The 2003/04 Abitur class was the first class to learn German from a native speaker from the first grade. The school received its current name on January 9, 1997.

German lessons are offered from the first grade . Of the 538 students (2006), around half are German or of German descent. Lithuanian as the state language and German as the national language are compulsory examination subjects for the Abitur . This entitles you to study at German universities. Between 1997 and 2006 there was an attached boarding school for around 30 students in part of the school building.

Two program teachers, who are mostly employed in German classes, are sent to the school by the Federal Office of Administration .
