Hermann Gummel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Karl Gummel (born July 6, 1923 in Hanover ) is a physicist who is known among other things for the Gummel-Poon model , a mathematical model for the simulation of bipolar transistors . Furthermore, the Gummel plot and the Gummel number were named after him in electronics .

Life

Gummel studied at the University of Marburg , where he graduated in 1952 as a graduate physicist. He received his PhD from Syracuse University in 1957 . In 1956, he began working at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey. Here he developed a simulation model for bipolar transistors together with HC Poon. Since 1967 he and his team have been working with great success on tools for automation in semiconductor component development, in particular computer-aided analysis, modeling and simulation.
