Hermann Kaps

Hermann Kaps (* 1940 ) is a German cargo technology specialist.

Life

From 1957, Hermann Kaps went to sea for the Bremen Hansa Line for thirteen years . In 1965 he was second officer on the motor ship Ehrenfels . He ended this phase of his career as first officer. He then taught at the University of Nautical Sciences in Bremen from 1970 to 2004 . From 1984 to 2004 he read every year as visiting professor at the World Maritime University in Malmö . From 1998 he was the scientific director of GAUSS mbH. From 1985 to 2002 he also worked as an advisor to the German delegation at the IMO in London . At times he headed the Cargo Securing working group. At Kaps' suggestion, Annex 13 of the Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing is among others. This code provides a uniform test for securing non-standardized cargo.

In 2004, Kaps retired, but continued to oversee further training seminars. He was mainly responsible for project cargo and tanker shipping.
