Hermann Knispel (born December 26, 1855 in Worms , Grand Duchy of Hesse , † October 26, 1919 in Darmstadt , German Empire ) was a German stage actor and author.

Live and act

Knispel came to Darmstadt, his adopted home of many years, at an early age to study engineering there. However, he quickly made up his mind and switched to the stage as an actor. After his debut in Hanau in 1874, he returned to Darmstadt the following year and made his debut at the local Grand Ducal Court Theater on September 28, 1875 with the pupil in Goethe's Faust . Knispel remained connected to this one stage all his life and played over 400 character roles there in the 44 years of his membership until his death in autumn 1919. In addition, he served as the artistic secretary for the dramaturgy of this venue. Knispel's activity as a chronicler of the court theater outweighs his acting achievements. He wrote several, in some cases quite extensive, papers on this topic.
