Hermann Loescher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Friedrich Emil Loescher , Italianized Ermanno Loescher , (* 1831 in Lindenau ; † 1892 ) was a German-Italian bookseller and publisher .

Loescher learned the book trade in his hometown Leipzig and after years of traveling in Germany and Austria came in 1857 as the first retailer to the Leipzig publishing house of Friedrich Fleischer. In 1861 Loescher took over the bookstore from Gustav Hahmann in Turin , which he expanded into a successful publishing bookstore in Italy. As a publisher, Loescher devoted himself in particular to philology and published magazines such as the Archivio di Glottologia , the Rivista di filologia classica and the Giornale Storico della Letteratura Italiana . The relocation of the Italian government to Florence and later to Rome caused Loescher to set up branches there (Florence 1865, Rome 1870), to which he belonged as Socius until his death.
