Hermann Löscher

Friedrich Hermann Löscher (born September 22, 1888 in Zwönitz , † December 25, 1967 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and historian who became known for his research on the settlement history and customs of the Ore Mountains .

Life

Löscher was the son of the deacon of the same name, Friedrich Hermann Löscher, and was the first born to be named after his father. His mother was Martha Emilie, née Saitmacher. After completing his Abitur at the Schneeberger Gymnasium, Löscher began studying law at the universities of Jena and Leipzig, which he had to interrupt because of the draft and the First World War. His doctoral thesis on Dr. jur. dealt with the topic of school, church and government - a contribution to the history of the church school loan .

With his wife Erika geb. Meyfarth, whom he married in Leipzig in 1927, he moved to Dresden a year later. The marriage had four children. In addition to his freelance work as a legal expert and legal historian, Löscher published extensively on topics related to local, school and church history.

After his retirement in 1953, Dr. Löscher intensive source research on the Erzgebirge mining law of the Middle Ages. His publications on the history of settlements and towns in the Ore Mountains are still the basis for further research. In 1967 he was honored with the Leibniz Medal . His main work, the Erzgebirge mining law of the 15th and 16th centuries , remained unfinished. After his death, several of the handwritten manuscripts he left behind were edited and published by his daughter Erika (1927-2018).
