Hermann Mayer (politician)

Hermann Mayer (born May 25, 1889 in Götzis ; † February 15, 1959 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ), innkeeper and merchant. From 1923 to 1926 he was a member of the Vorarlberg State Parliament and from 1919 to 1924 Vice Mayor of Götzis.

education and profession

After attending compulsory school, Hermann Mayer completed a business school and subsequently worked as a businessman. He did military service as a subordinate during the First World War between 1914 and 1918. Mayer was also an innkeeper in Götzis and ran the Tasthaus zur Traube as a tenant. In addition, he was chairman of the Frastanz brewery cooperative , where he was a member of the board in 1946 and head from 1947.

Politics and functions

Hermann Mayer was involved as a member of the Christian Social Party and was active in local politics in his home community Götzis. In 1919 he was sworn in as a member of the Götzis municipal council and held this position until 1924. He also held the post of Vice Mayor in Götzis from 1919 to 1924. In addition to local politics, Mayer was also active in state politics, where he ran for the Christian Social Party in the Feldkirch electoral district in the 1923 state elections. He was able to win a mandate in this election and was sworn in on November 6, 1923 as a member of the Feldkirch electoral district in the Vorarlberg state parliament. He was a member of this until his resignation on December 16, 1926. Mayer was a member of the medical and school committee in the session years 1923/24, 1925 and 1926.

Mayer was also involved as a member of the Götzis parish choir and was a member of the Götzis theater community.

Private

Hermann Mayer was born as the son of the businessman and mayor of Götzis Ignaz Mayer (1844–1912). His mother was Maria Margaretha Mayer, née Fleisch. Both of his parents saw the light of day in Götzis and died here too. Hermann Mayer married Rosina Hermine Längle (1890–1963) in Innsbruck on June 16, 1913, who was also born in Götzis. Together, Hermann and Rosina Mayer became parents of seven children, five daughters and two sons, who were born between 1914 and 1926.
