Life and work

Political party

In the Weimar Republic , Olson belonged to the SPD . After the Second World War , he initially participated in the reconstruction of the SPD, but left it in 1946 to protest against Kurt Schumacher's policies , which, as a member of the Danish minority, seemed too nationalist to him. He then founded the Danish-oriented Social Democratic Party in Flensburg , which, however, reunited with the SPD in 1954 under pressure from the Danish Social Democrats. Some of its members like Herman Olsen switched to SSW .

MP

Olson was a member of the Flensburg City Council from 1946 until his death. In 1946 he was a member of the first appointed state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein, but was no longer considered for the second appointed state parliament after he left the SPD. In 1947 he was elected to the state parliament as part of an alliance between his SPF and the SSW, to which he belonged until December 21, 1953 as a member of the SSW parliamentary group. He was elected in the constituency of Flensburg-Stadt in 1947 and in the Flensburg-West constituency in 1950. The Landtag elected him a member of the first Federal Assembly , which elected Theodor Heuss as Federal President on September 12, 1949 .
