Karl Hermann Rüfenacht (born June 28, 1867 in Bern ; † February 22, 1934 there ) was a Swiss lawyer and diplomat.

Live and act

Rüfenacht attended high school in Bern and studied law in Geneva , Bern , Berlin and Vienna from 1885 to 1891 . He completed his studies in 1892 with a dissertation on the subject of literary and artistic copyright in Switzerland, with special consideration for the existing international treaties .

After completing his studies, Rüfenacht was initially employed by an insurance company in Paris before he worked as a lawyer in Bern from 1893 to 1913, specializing in insurance issues. From 1913 to 1922 he was the first director of the Federal Social Insurance Office, where he was involved in the development of the AHV and an insurance fund for federal staff. In the early 1920s he switched to the diplomatic service of the Swiss Confederation. From 1922 to 1932 he was the Swiss envoy for the German Reich in Berlin .

From 1900 to 1904 he was Bernese city councilor for the FDP .
