Hermann Schäffer

Hermann Schäffer (* 1940 in Bad Mergentheim ) is a German church musician . From 1998 to 2006 he was rector of the Heidelberg University of Church Music .

Life

Schäffer first studied school music in Stuttgart. A scholarship enabled him to study the organ in Rome from 1963 to 1964. From 1964 further training at the Berlin church music school followed. There he took the B exam, and in 1967 the A exam externally in Stuttgart. The Kreuzkirche in Düsseldorf was his first position as a church musician from 1968. From 1975 many years in the cantor's office of the Christ Church in Mannheim followed before he was appointed rector of the University of Church Music in Heidelberg in 1998.
