Bernd Stegmann

Bernd Stegmann (born June 10, 1952 in Lage ) is a German church musician , composer and author. From 1985 to 2019 he was professor of choral conducting at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg and its rector from 2006 to 2018.

Life

Stegmann studied in Detmold and Berlin with Martin Behrmann , Helmut Barbe , Heinz Werner Zimmermann and Ernst Pepping, among others , and passed the A-exam at the Berlin church music school in 1975 . Then studied orchestral conducting in Vienna and with Sergiu Celibidache . Between 1977 and 1985 he worked as organist and cantor at the Pauluskirche in Berlin-Zehlendorf . At the same time he was the artistic director of the Berlin Bach Society . In 1985 he was appointed professor for choir and orchestra conducting at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg and has been its rector since 2006. Stegmann has directed the Berlin vocal ensemble he founded since 1979 and the Heidelberg Kantorei since 1986, succeeding Erich Huebner .
