Martin Behrmann

Martin Behrmann (born July 16, 1930 in Dessau ; † January 5, 2014 in Löningen in the Oldenburger Münsterland ) was a German choir director and university teacher .

Life

Martin Behrmann was a high school student at the Katharineum in Lübeck and graduated from the Johanneum in Hamburg. He studied church music at the Freiburg University of Music and the organ with Walter Kraft. He passed the A exam at the Lübeck University of Music.

From 1957 to 1966 he was cantor at St. Andreas Church in Hamburg. He founded the Cappella Vocale Hamburg and until 1966 was a choir conducting lecturer at the Hamburg University of Music. In 1966 he accepted the call as a choral conducting lecturer at the Berlin church music school in the Johannesstift (KMS) Spandau, of which he was director from 1976 to 1998. He headed the Spandau Kantorei for 29 years. For his achievements he was appointed church music director.

Behrmann was also committed to foreign church music associations such as the Sambalikhaan Foundation in the Philippines. Here he took part in relevant workshops together with other renowned church music teachers.
