The Golden Grove Mine is an Australian copper - lead - silver - zinc - gold mine located 52 km southeast of Yalgoo in Western Australia .

It is operated by the Minerals and Metals Group , a subsidiary of the Chinese state group China Minmetals , which acquired the mine from OZ Minerals in June 2009. Golden Grove was part of a purchase of the Sepon, Century, Rosebery and Avebury Mines, Dugald River, High Lake and Izok Lake Projects, as well as several mineral exploration projects valued at US $ 1,354 Billions from OZ Minerals to China Minmetals .

The purchase, which included the Prominent Hill Mine, was only partially approved by the Australian government due to national interests. This was announced by Treasury Secretary Wayne Swan , as the Prominent Hill Mine cannot be included in the purchase agreement because it is located in a military restricted area, in the Woomera Prohibited Area . The contract could only be completed after the purchase of Prominent Hill was waived.

history

The mine was originally owned by Australian Consolidated Minerals Pty Ltd before it was acquired by Normandy Poseidon Ltd in November 1991 . Normandy, now Normandy Mining Ltd, was acquired by Newmont Australia Ltd in February 2002 .

Newmont sold the mine to Oxiana Limited in June 2005 for AUD 265 million and Oxiana merged with Zinifex in mid-2008 to form OZ Minerals . OZ Minerals had to sell Golden Grove to China Minmetals , as well as its other mines, in June 2009 when the company ran into financial difficulties.

The Golden Grove Mine now consists of two mines about 3 kilometers apart. These are Gossan Hill underground mines in the hard rock and Scuddles which produce both zinc, copper, lead, silver and gold. The Gossan Hill deposit was discovered in 1971 and Scuddles in 1979.

In 2008, the mines' revenues were AUD 266.2 million and the operating income was AUD 72.1 million.

In June 2009, OZ Minerals announced that a technical defect in their ore grinder at the Golden Grove Mine had put production out of operation for a month just before the decision to sell. Operation was resumed a month later in July 2009.
