Hermann Otto Heinrich Schwind (born March 18, 1923 in Mannheim ; † January 27, 2009 in Dortmund ) was a German engineer and professor of systems engineering in the chemical engineering department of the Technical University of Dortmund .

Life

Schwind attended elementary school from 1929 to 1933 and the Lessing secondary school in Mannheim from 1933 to 1941. After graduating from high school in 1941, he did a "student compensation service" before studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt from 1942 to 1945 . There he joined the Corps Franconia Darmstadt . From 1946 to 1948 he continued his studies at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . In 1948 he passed the main diploma examination. He then worked as a doctoral student at the university's refrigeration institute and received his doctorate in 1952 as a Dr.-Ing. From 1948 to 1954 he worked as a production engineer at Gebrüder Bender GmbH, Eisfabrik und Kühlhaussysteme in Mannheim and at Süddeutsche Kühlhaus GmbH in Frankfurt am Main . He then worked until 1956 as Associate Research Engineer at York Corporation and (successor) York Devision of Borg-Warner Corporation in York (Pennsylvania) , USA . He moved to the Worthington Corporation in Harrison (New Jersey) in a project engineer position and stayed there until 1958. He then worked until 1969 as a design group leader (chief engineer, authorized signatory ) at Badische Anilin- & Soda Fabrik AG ( BASF ) in Ludwigshafen am Rhein . From then on, he worked for 19 years as a full professor for systems engineering in the chemical engineering department at the Technical University of Dortmund . With his retirement in 1988 he ended his career at the university.

Schwind was married and had two children.
