Hermann Tietz (musician)

Hermann Tietz (born March 8, 1844 in Driesen , † April 8, 1901 in Gotha ) was a German chemist and musician.

He studied chemistry from 1859 to 1863 at the Berlin Business Academy and then switched to music. He was a student of Theodor Kullak and since 1866 a teacher at his institution. In 1868 Hermann Tietz went to Gotha. There he founded the Musikverein in the same year and the Gotha Conservatory for Music in 1880, both of which he directed.

From 1869 Hermann Tietz was court pianist.

In 1888 he was awarded the title of professor for music.
