Hermann von Rein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the 12th century, Hermann von Rein was a monk, priest and preacher from the Cistercian monastery Rein in what is now Austria's Styria .

Hermann is one of the great homilets of the high Middle Ages. 108 of his sermons are handed down by him in the Reiner manuscript No. 94. The sermons show a man of high education, well-read in the writings of the Cistercian Bernhard von Clairvaux . Hermann wrote sermons about the Lord's festivals, about the Virgin Mary and about the saints.

Hermann's sermons were used in Rein well into the 17th century , as marginal notes in the sermon handwriting show. It is likely to be used in other monasteries such as Lilienfeld Abbey .
