Location of Hermannsmühle (Lüttringhausen) in Remscheid

The Hermannsmühle is a court in the Remscheid district of Lüttringhausen . It is located between Lennep , Goldenberg and Kranen and is a listed building .

history

Hermannsmühle

The court was first mentioned in 1487 by the resident "Hermann op der Mühlen". At that time the mill was a fruit grinder on the Endringhauser-, Hermannsmühlen- or Walkbach. Different names have become known over the years: Heintzen Mühle, Winkelsmühle and ultimately Hermannsmühle. However, according to old traditions, it must have expired between 1487 and 1575. In 1607 "Peter Fuhrmann auf der Halbach" ran the mill again .

A descendant of the builder of the Hermannsmühle, Peter Johann Fuhrmann, founded the Wollhaus Fuhrmann and in 1785 a shop in Lennep, which mainly consisted of leather, cloth and wool shops. In 1829 the Hermannsmühle is documented as "Wilhelmsmühle". Johann Wilhelm Wilhelmy, the new owner, received the concession to build a steam engine in the Hermannsmühle on June 13, 1868 .

After 1900, the water power was used by master grinder Berger, who set up the "first grinding shop in Hermannsmühler Kotten" in the basement. Later, the court with the two houses and the farm became the rest home of the Fuhrmann & Co. Berlin company and later became the property of the Tannenhof Foundation , which had the agricultural part of their estate on Remscheider Strasse cultivated. House No. 1, a remarkable old half-timbered building, is a listed building. Old grindstones in front of the house are a reminder of the bygone industrial era.

geography

A narrow thoroughfare connects Stursberg I with the Tackermühle and Lennep . The Lüttringhauser Bach flows through the courtyard and supplies a small pond on the edge. Hiking trails branch off in different directions.

monument

On the footpath between Hermannsmühle and Sirachskotten there is a memorial that commemorates the death of a Güldenwerth citizen who was caught smuggling and shot here by French soldiers in 1923. At that time, the border between the Ruhr area, which was occupied by the French (as a result of the First World War ) and the unoccupied Rhineland ran along the brook .
