Hermit Iceland (of English hermit , recluse, a hermit ' ) is a 1.5 km long island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 2.5 km southeast of Bonaparte Point off the southwest coast of Anvers Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee made the designation in 1958. It is named after the fact that a geodesist from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey was stationed on this island in January 1957 to measure it.
