history
Dunkeld House was one of the outbuildings of the Dukes of Atholl , whose ancestral home is Blair Castle . John Murray , who later became the 3rd Duke of Atholl, developed the south-facing estate The Hermitage from 1758 and attached it to Dunkeld House. Among other things, the Hermitage Bridge was built there in 1774, which secured access to the property. It was a private path used by the nobleman and opened to the public when the property was handed over to the National Trust for Scotland .
