Hernâni Neves

Hernâni Madruga Neves (born November 2, 1963 in Mourão ) is a former Portuguese football player . The midfielder last played for Desportivo Beja . He was a Portuguese international .

He started his career in 1982 with Vitória Setúbal . 1985/86 he was loaned to SC Farense and then returned to Setúbal. In 1988 he moved to Benfica Lisbon , where he was under contract until 1994. In his first season in December 1988, he tested positive for cocaine and was banned for three months.

With Benfica he won the championship and the Supercup in 1989 and reached the final of the European Cup in 1990 , where the team lost 1-0 to AC Milan . Benfica also won the championship in 1991 and 1994 and the cup in 1993, although he was mostly only a substitute. From 1994 to 1996 he played again in Setúbal and 1996/1997 in Beja.

He was appointed to the national team twice between 1987 and 1990.
