from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lords of Kochendorf were a lower aristocratic family from the ministry in Kochendorf, today a district of Bad Friedrichshall in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg . The headquarters of the Lords of Kochendorf was the Kochendorfer Zwingenberg , from which the most famous representative of the Wilhelm von Wimpfen family (formerly Wilhelm von Kochendorf ) comes.

history

The Lords of Kochendorf had part of their property as a fiefdom from the Bishop of Worms, the other part as an imperial fiefdom. In addition, they owned a lot of their own. The Lords of Kochendorf finally had the manorial rule over the place. They also had driving rights over the cooker , owned the Kochendorfer mill and the right to press.

It should be thanks to the work of Wilhelm that Kochendorf was fortified and laid out in a city-like manner. The Bergschloss Zwingenberg was built in the 13th century as the family seat. The Kochendorf moated castle was later built for other branches of the family .

Another branch of the family built, probably by assisting William of Kochendorf / Wimpfen in Zwingenberg another castle, the castle Zwingenberg . The branch of the family living there bore the name of Zwingenberg in the future .

In 1450, with the death of the spiritual brother Johann von Kochendorf, the Lords of Kochendorf died out.
