The manor house Meilitz was a manor house built in 1715 in the district Meilitz of the municipality Wünschendorf / Elster in the district of Greiz in Thuringia . The cultural monument was demolished at the end of 2013.

history

Hans Lebrecht von Koppy and his wife Johanna Friederike von Wolffersdorf had the building erected in 1715 on Gutsgrund in the style of the time. The two-storey plastered solid construction under a high mansard hipped roof shaped the townscape east of the White Elster and the flat landscape north of Wünschendorf for 300 years.

After the landowner's family was expropriated in 1945, the manor house became an apprentice residence. The large rooms have been redistributed accordingly and most of the door openings have been made smaller. All the ceilings were dropped.

In 2013, the owner, head of a logistics company, applied for a demolition. The stucco ceilings were then examined for restoration. They were cove ceilings with rich floral ornamentation. Since part of the baroque door leaves had been kept in the attic and most of the stucco ceilings above the suspended ceilings had been preserved, a reconstruction in line with historic monuments would have been possible. The Thuringian State Office for Monument Preservation and Archeology refused to approve the demolition. "Especially for the documentation and research of the baroque stucco in Thuringia, the stock in Meilitz, which has not yet been dealt with in the specialist literature because it is unknown, is of great scientific importance."

Nevertheless, the request for demolition was approved by the Lower Monument Protection Authority, which is located near the city of Greiz. "With the demolition," says state curator Holger Reinhardt , "another testimony to the building culture of the 18th century and a model for the profane architecture in bourgeois residential building has been lost."
