The Herreninsel (Lübeck) is a peninsula in Lübeck on the Untertrave . The Herren Tunnel of Bundesstraße 75 has been running in the middle of Herreninsel since 2005 . The peninsula can be reached from Lübeck after passing the toll station.

history

The Herreninsel is the result of measures to regulate the river Trave in the 19th and 20th centuries. The first breakthrough at the Herrenfähre took place in 1851. In 1901 the then even more meandering Trave was expanded to facilitate shipping to the port of Lübeck and its course was straightened . As part of this, a new breakthrough was made in the area of ​​Herreninsel, and the previous course became an old arm .

During and after the Second World War, the camp on the island was due to the traffic jam . Before the tunnel was built, the B 75 ran across the island and then crossed the Trave over the Herrenbrücke (Herrenwyk) . The Herrenbrücke was demolished. Remains of the earlier bridge piers are marked by navigation signs and form the Herreninselenge for shipping.

Realities

The Herreninsel is on average three to four meters above sea level. For residential purposes, the ground floor height must be 3.87 meters above sea level.

Use of the Herreninsel

The Herreninsel is a special construction area for sport boat harbors.

The Herreninsel has been used for residential purposes since 1934. Due to the proximity to the port operations on the opposite bank of the Trave in day and night operations and the Baltic Sea storm water, future use as a residential area is linked to conditions such as noise protection and flood protection. A public drainage system is being built in the street Am Kattegat (as of 2017)
