Herrmannbad Löbau (postcard from 1910)

The Herrmannbad is an outdoor swimming pool in the east of the city of Löbau . When it opened in 1906, it was considered one of the most modern outdoor pools in Saxony.

location

The bath is located east of the old town center of Löbau, outside the former city walls. It is located west of the Löbau-Ost residential area on Vorwerkstrasse. This separates the residential area and the outdoor swimming pool. In turn, it borders the Löbauer Wasser in the west, to the north is the site of the State Garden Show 2012 , and to the south is a garage complex.

history

Public thanks from the city of Löbau to Emil Bruno Herrmann for the donation of 10,000 Reichsmarks for the construction of the Herrmann-Bad (advertisement from 1904)

The starting point for the establishment of the outdoor pool was the will of the yarn merchant Emil Bruno Herrmann, who died on January 12, 1904. He had left 10,000 marks for the construction of an outdoor swimming pool. After Herrmann's death, the city initially planned with two separate pools for women and men. The expected costs of around 33,000 marks, however, were too high, so that this plan had to be discarded and an agreement was finally reached on the construction of a pool with a water surface of around 1000  with separate bathing times for women and men. The city of Löbau followed Herrmann's last will and from April 1906 built a swimming pool within four months and at a cost of 27,600 marks, which was opened on July 16, 1906. When it opened, the Herrmannbad was considered to be one of the most modern outdoor pools in Saxony. Cooling and condensation water from the nearby Bergquell brewery was used for the bath. This was heated for use, which made it possible to extend the season opening by two months.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the bathroom was in dire need of repair. In the course of preparations for the 6th Saxon State Garden Show in 2012, the outdoor pool was completely renovated and rebuilt in 2011. The demolition began in January 2011. The previous swimming pool was replaced by heated stainless steel pools, and the technical and sanitary facilities as well as the kiosk area were renewed. At the same time, the swimming pools were reorganized. Instead of one large swimming pool, two separate pools and a slide were built.
