history

Idea and concept

With the city council resolution of July 5, 2007 as the basis, the city of Löbau submitted the application to host the State Horticultural Show 2012 to the Saxon State Ministry for Environment and Agriculture .

The commission of the Saxon state government visited Löbau on August 26, 2007. The Lord Mayor Dietmar Buchholz led the commission, which submitted the recommendation for the next venue for the State Garden Show to the Saxon state government, through Löbau and recommended himself and the city with commitment.

On December 11, 2007, the Saxon cabinet decided to award the 6th Saxon State Garden Show 2012 to the city of Löbau.

The aim is to create permanently green recreational and adventure areas on a total area of around 20 hectares. To this end, Löbau intended to ecologically upgrade the formerly industrial valley area by the Löbauer Wasser . The fallow land at the location of the former sugar factory consisted of an area of approx. One hectare in the inner city or on the outskirts of Löbau. The area was first developed in 1883 and a sugar factory was built on. Until 2002 the area served industrial use as a sugar factory. The factory buildings had already been removed from the area and as part of the revitalization applied for, only the remaining retaining walls were to be removed (clearing of the depths of former buildings) and a building was to be retained, in which the flower shows took place and the area was unsealed . Thereafter, the area was to be used as a festival and event space with an inner-city parking lot. The sedimentation basins, in which the sludge from washing the sugar beets was deposited in the past , were to become thematic adventure areas along the state horticultural trail , which was designed as a green oasis . The 16-hectare site is located near the old town, in the valley of the Löbauer Water and at its adjacent former industrial sites, which had already disappeared.
