The rule Wasserburg, with its seat at Schloss Wasserburg in Wasserburg , was a rule in the Holy Roman Empire , which came to Bavaria with mediatization in 1805/6 . Wasserburg is now a municipality in the district of Lindau ( Bavaria )

history

Wasserburg was first handed over to the St. Gallen monastery in 784 . For a long time the rule was given to the lords of Kisslegg as a Sankt Gallen fief and in the 14th century the rule came to the lords of Schellenberg through marriage . Around 1525, the Wasserburg rule finally became the property of the Counts of Montfort after a pledge . In 1592 they sold the rule to the Fuggers , whose line Fugger-Wasserburg they sold to Austria in 1763 . On the basis of the Rhine Federation Act 1805/6, rule came to the Kingdom of Bavaria as part of mediatization .
