Cretan Airlines (externally cretan airlines ) was a Greek airline based in Heraklion .

history

It was founded in 1991 by private investors with the intention of promoting local tourism on the island of Crete . Flight operations began on April 2, 1993 with IT charter flights . A fleet of two Airbus A320s was used for this. While Cretan Airlines had to rent additional aircraft due to the high number of passengers in the summer months, it was not possible in the long term to use the aircraft to capacity over the winter months.

The plan to operate domestic flights between the Greek islands with a specially ordered Dornier 328-100 from 1995 could no longer be realized because the company filed for bankruptcy in June 1995 and returned the two Airbus A320s to the lessor.

Destinations

Cretan Airlines mainly operated charter flights from German airports to Greek destinations. In addition, a line connection between Athens Airport and Thessaloniki Airport had been established.

fleet

In March 1995 the Cretan Airlines fleet consisted of two Airbus A320s .
