Olympus Airways is a Greek ACMI charter airline based in Athens .

history

Olympus Airways was founded in October 2015 and commenced flight operations shortly afterwards with a leased Boeing 737-500 on charter flights from Germany. In the period that followed, a collaboration was also entered into with the virtual Italian airline PeopleFly in order to carry out charter flights across Europe and to North Africa for the latter. In early March 2016, the only Boeing 737-500 left the Olympus fleet to be replaced by an Airbus A319-100 in the same month . However, since Olympus Airways had communicated January as the date of operation of the A319 to PeopleFly instead of March, there were delays that resulted in the Italian company having to postpone the start of its flight connections three times and ultimately breaking off the cooperation with Olympus Airways.

An Airbus A319-100 (SX-BHN) operated by Olympus Airways operated for Wings of Lebanon at Stockholm / Arlanda Airport, summer 2017

Olympus Airways then chartered ACMI for various airlines. In May 2017, the existing fleet of two Airbus A319-100s and two Airbus A321-200s was expanded to include a first Airbus A320-200 .

In summer 2018 there were irregularities in the flight operations of Olympus Airways; Not only were travelers repeatedly faced with long delays on flights from various German airports to destinations in the Canary Islands, flights were also canceled. As a result, the Kaarst- based company Involatus , which operates as a charter broker and which chartered a large part of Olympus Airways aircraft and resold the seat contingents to tour operators, terminated its cooperation with the airline from September of the same year. Olympus Airways responded by suspending Involatus flights on August 21, 2018 - before the terminated contract expired. In this regard, the Greek airline stated that Involatus had not made payments and that outstanding amounts of around 4.2 million euros had accumulated.

Towards the end of April 2019, it was communicated that two Airbus A330s would soon be deployed . The plans not only remained unrealized, the two Airbus A320-200s that had previously been introduced into the fleet had already left the fleet here. Furthermore, the number of A319s was reduced to one machine.

At the beginning of December 2019, Olympus Airways received the first of two Boeing 757-200PCF cargo aircraft . The remaining passenger fleet, consisting of three Airbus A321-200s, was inactive at this time for maintenance reasons.

Destinations

The company operates in the worldwide ACMI charter traffic. In addition to serving European customers, Olympus Airways has in the past also been active in the emirate of Kuwait, the Congo, Lebanon, Iran and the Ukraine.
