Hervé Kempf

Hervé Kempf (* 1957 in Amiens ) is a French journalist and author . From 1997 to 2013 he was responsible for the environment department at the French daily Le Monde . He has been editor-in-chief of the environmental magazine Reporterre since 2013 .

Life

Kempf studied economics and political science as well as history. After completing his studies, he embarked on a journalistic career. First he published as a science journalist for "Science et Vie Micro". From around 1988, triggered by the Chernobyl disaster, he specialized in reporting on environmental issues and questions. He founded the environmental magazine Reporterre and worked for various newspapers such as Courrier international and La Recherche . In 1997, Kempf started working at Le Monde , which he left in 2013 in a dispute over reporting on the Projet d'aéroport du Grand Ouest , the new Nantes airport building .

Politically, Kempf is located close to the movement critical of globalization. For his article " A Rochefort, le principe de modération ", published in Le Monde on April 8, 2011, he received the Prix ​​Reporters d'Espoirs in 2012 in the Environment category . In this report he describes the work of M. Bastier, head of energy supply for the city of Rochefort (Charente-Maritime) , who has saved 12 million euros in his community over the past 20 years through the consistent implementation of energy saving concepts.

Kempf has written two bestsellers. The book Comment les riches détruisent la planète was published in 2007, the volume Pour sauver la planète, sortez du capitalisme appeared in 2009. Kempf explains here that capitalism is not in a position to provide a solution for the crises it has created to find. For this book he was awarded the Prix ​​du Livre Environnement 2009 and the Prix ​​du Public , awarded by La Maison de la nature et de l'environnement de l'Isère and the FNAC Grenoble .
