The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a Catholic church in the Wesel district of Feldmark .

The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is just three kilometers north of the city center of Wesel in the Feldmark district. The distance to the central market square of the Feldmark and the Protestant church located there is around 400 meters. The Wesel vocational college and a kindergarten belonging to the church are in the immediate vicinity.

In the Middle Ages, the Feldmark belonged to the parish of Wesel and thus to the rural area around the city. Its residents used the churches of St. Willibrord and Mathenakirche in the city for church visits. After the Reformation was introduced in Wesel in 1540, residents of the city and the surrounding area who remained Catholic were able to visit the Dominican monastery (later St. Mary's Assumption) and Fraterhaus (later St. Martini) for church services. From 1836, today's Feldmark belonged to the parish of St. Martini. In the late 19th century, the population of the previously rural Feldmark began to grow.

The first church

On January 25, 1920, residents of Feldmark founded a church building association and purchased a piece of land next to the school on Mühlenweg. On its own initiative, the association built a wooden church, which was consecrated on December 5, 1920. In 1921 a Way of the Cross was set up in the church and a church choir was founded. In the following years several church associations were founded, including a women's association in 1922 and the sports association Deutsche Jugend Kraft in 1926. In 1924 a youth home was set up next to the church.

During the Second World War , the church and the adjacent rectory were damaged in bombing raids in 1945, but not destroyed. The damage could be repaired provisionally and the church was visited by numerous Catholics from the Wesel city center in the first post-war years, as the churches there were no longer usable. In 1946 the Sacred Heart Church was renovated and in September 1948 it received a new altar.

The current church was built next to the old church while it was still in use. On July 20, 1952, the new church was consecrated and Holy Mass was held for the last time in the old church.

Today's church building

From October 1948 onwards there was permission to collect donations for a new church as part of the collection and not to carry out the collection for destroyed churches in the diocese of Münster as was previously the case. In December 1950 the foundation stone for the new church building was laid. The new church building was consecrated on July 20, 1952. At the time the church was built, it was aligned with the Feldmark, Blumenkamp , Flüren and Lackhausen . In Flüren, however, the construction of St. Mary's Church began in 1956 .

The organ built by the Franz Breil company was used for the first time at Christmas 1954 . In the following years the church was equipped with various other productions, including a figure of Saint Anthony that was erected in January 1959. In 1989 the organ had to be renovated and was expanded in this context.

There is a youth home next to the church. The DPSG Wesel-Feldmark scout tribe, founded in 1957, and other parish associations are based there. In addition, the Catholic day care center Herz Jesu is located next to the church.
