The church belongs to the parish of the Holy Family Bitterfeld of the diocese of Magdeburg .

location

It is located in the city center of Bitterfeld at the address Röhrenstraße 2 on the northwest side of Röhrenstraße directly at the confluence with Binnengärtenstraße.

Architecture and history

The three-aisled basilica was built in 1896 in neo-Gothic style as a brick building. On the east side there is a choir with a five-sided end. It is spanned by a groin vault. The windows of the church are lancet-shaped. Buttresses are arranged between them .

In 1928, a 58-meter-high bell tower was built southwest of the ship. It was created based on designs by Johannes Reuter (senior) and was torn down in 1991 and replaced with clinker- reinforced concrete .

It is very likely that the design for the church came from the Paderborn cathedral and diocesan architect Arnold Güldenpfennig , to whom numerous Catholic churches in Saxony-Anhalt are attributed, as he held this office for 50 years. The main reason for the assignment to Güldenpfennig's work is the identical construction with the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Hettstedt, which can be proven from Güldenpfennig . Güldenpfennig has built identical churches in different cities several times.

Inside the church there is an organ gallery in neo-Gothic style, apart from the choir and side windows designed by Christof Grüger in 1971 with industrial motifs, the furnishings are kept simple.

In the local register of monuments , the church is registered as a monument under registration number 094 95335 .
