Herz-Mariä-Church (Alzen)
The Roman Catholic Herz-Mariä-Kirche in Alzen , a district of Morsbach , is a pilgrimage church. It belongs to the pastoral care area “Morsbach / Friesenhagen / Wildbergerhütte” and is the second church in the parish of St. Gertrud , next to the parish church of St. Gertrud in Morsbach.
history
The church was inaugurated on August 22, 1954 by the Cologne auxiliary bishop Wilhelm Cleven . The relics of Ursula of Cologne and Gereon of Cologne from Cologne churches were walled into the altar.
The Alzen Church is the first church in the Archdiocese of Cologne to be dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. From the summer of 1946 an old labor barracks served as an emergency church and in October 1950 the first groundbreaking of the new church was carried out by Dean Karl Strack . The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in October 1952.
On January 2, 1955, the Fatima Madonna was installed in the church in a side altar in the left aisle of the church. Alzen is a well-known Mary - pilgrimage become.
