The University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen is in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases specialized clinic with the fields of cardiology , cardiac and vascular surgery and angiology in Freiburg and Bad Krozingen in Breisgau . It is one of the largest heart centers in Germany. The two clinics merged on April 1, 2012 and have been running the center as equal partners ever since. As a result of the merger, the University Heart Center (UHZ) is one of the leading heart centers in terms of diagnoses and treatments.

The University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen employs 1700 people in its two locations, 1142 of them in Bad Krozingen, and has 424 beds.

Every year, 22,000 inpatient treatments are carried out, covering all cardiovascular areas.

history

The University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen GmbH was founded on August 19, 2011. With the establishment of this company, the first cornerstone for the heart center was laid. The University Medical Center Freiburg and the Association Benedikt Kreutz Rehabilitation Center for Cardiovascular Diseases are equal partners in the Heart Center . V., sponsor of the Bad Krozingen Heart Center. Only a few months later, on November 17, 2011, the state parliament approved the motion. The way to the merger was clear. On April 1, 2012, the University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen went into operation. According to the company, the merger resulted in one of the largest heart centers in Europe. Both locations retained their focus and thus complement each other to form one of the leading centers for cardiovascular diseases. As of January 1, 2021, the operation of the University Heart Center was to be leased to the University Medical Center Freiburg in order to avoid sales tax payments for services between the two facilities in the millions. Because the UHZ got into further economic difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic , the state of Baden-Württemberg and the two shareholders of the UHZ agreed in May 2020 on framework conditions for a complete takeover by the university hospital that had been planned for a long time.

research

The University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen has a whole range of research focuses. The individual focal points are spread across the three major subject areas that are dealt with at the UHZ. The specialties are cardiology and angiology, cardiovascular surgery and pediatric cardiology. The UHZ hopes to find new treatment therapies for cardiovascular diseases through its wide-ranging research. The research competence is strengthened by the Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine (IEKM).
