Duke of Beja

The title Duke of Beja (in Portuguese Duque de Beja ) was a Portuguese nobility title associated with the Portuguese royal family and founded in 1453 by King Alfonso V for his younger brother, the Infante Ferdinand of Portugal. The title refers to the southern Portuguese city of Beja .

His youngest son became King of Portugal under the name Manuel I and until the 19th century this title was associated with the monarch's second male son.

Queen Maria II of Portugal became the second male son Duke of Porto, while the title Duke of Beja was reserved for the third male son.
